60 Seconds With: Melodie Monrose, Model

One of our favorite models (and expert street style subject) Mélodie Monrose has come a long way from being discovered at 18 in her Caribbean hometown, Martinique. Since starting her career, the native French speaker has graced the cover of Vogue Italia and walked for fashion heavyweights Bottega Veneta, Lanvin, Miu Miu, and Saint Laurent.

Along the way, she’s relied on the natural beauty methods she learned from island life like coconut oil as body lotion, and a made-from-scratch concoction of avocado and olive oil to keep her ‘do shiny and healthy. And as if it wasn’t enough that she’s gorgeous, she’s lovely, too, which is just one of the reasons that we tapped her to model for us. (You can see Melodie on the Beautycounter website rocking Plum Lip Sheer). On set, we spent a minute with the drop-dead stunner to learn what makes her tick.

Name: Mélodie Monrose (she tweets at @MelodieMonrose)

Morning or Night? Night

Song is on repeat? Shelter by The XX and The Morning by The Weeknd

Heels or flats? Heels

Ultimate comfort food? Caribbean food, anything that looks like my mom would cook at home for me.

Motto you live by? Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Major career highlight? I’ve gotten so lucky in so many different ways since I started modeling. It’s so hard to pick one job, one campaign, one show, or even one major photographer. I could probably say my first fashion week, because it was such an unexpected success.

Can’t-live-without beauty product? Moisturizer. There’s nothing that bothers me more than ashy skin. I’ve tried everything from oils to elaborate creams, but lately I’ve been back to basics like coconut oil or shea butter.

Beauty icon? Probably my mother. She is the most beautiful inside and out in my eyes.

Best beauty secret that no one else knows about? There is nothing that I’m more obsessed with than my smile. I give my teeth a bleach once a year.

Mom’s best beauty tip? The avocado and olive oil hair mask. The best thing i could ever do for my hair.

Favorite scent? Jasmine

Best life advice you’ve ever received? That it’s okay to make mistakes, you just have to be big enough to admit them, learn from them, and try your best to correct them.
