Throwing an intimate get-together is a lot like baking a cake—while you can change up the flavor (chocolate or red velvet?), there are a few ingredients that are absolutely essential in ensuring that it comes out just right. So, as we near one of the most social times of the year, we called on three of our most talented LA-based friends who happen to be very familiar with these ingredients, to plan an easy, sustainable holiday gathering. We hope they inspire you to throw a party of your own.
Did you know that around 85% of breast cancers are not linked to family history? This means that there are steps you can take to reduce your exposure to environmental factors linked to the disease. With this encouraging fact in mind, we’ve teamed up with two organizations spreading the word about prevention: Breast Cancer Prevention Partners (BCPP) and Keep A Breast.
Every day we are faced with making choices that shape our future. As we strive towards better beauty, green chemistry plays an important role in our choice to create safer and cleaner products.
We were back in Sacramento this past week lobbying for support of the California Safer Salon Bill (AB2775) which would require manufacturers to list ingredients on the labels of professional cosmetic products.
As a leader in the development of safer beauty products, Beautycounter is constantly innovating, both in the use of ingredients and the development of products. However, making safer products is difficult and our rigorous testing process means that many of the synthetic and natural ingredients typically used in personal care products do not meet our standards for safety. That is why we are excited to support the Sustainable Chemistry Research and Development Act of 2018 introduced today by Senator Coons (D-DE) and Senator Collins (R-ME). This important bill will expand the number of safe, sustainable ingredients available to consumer product companies such as Beautycounter by establishing a federal sustainable chemistry program that promotes sustainable chemistry research, training and education.
Beautycounter was back in D.C. yesterday shedding light on how harmful ingredients in personal care products disproportionately impact women of color and solutions that can be found through the government and the marketplace. The briefing included a panel of women who are experts on the topic, including: Dr. Robin Dodson, PhD of Silent Spring Institute, makeup artist and esthetician Ony Danchimah, Boma Brown-West of the Environmental Defense Fund and Beautycounter CEO and Founder Gregg Renfrew. Members of the audience included House Congressional offices specifically targeting members of the Congressional Black Caucus, Congressional Hispanic Caucus and Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus.

When you’re a kid, rules are the bane of your existence. “Why can’t we just have ice cream for dinner?!” But as you get older, you realize there are certain laws and regulations put in place to help protect you. Like the enforcement of child car seats, the smoking ban on airplanes, and even a simple stop sign. While these laws seem like small, simple changes, they make a world of difference for our health and safety. We believe cosmetic safety reform should fit into this category. Because while you would think the products we use on our hair and body every day would be monitored for harmful ingredients, the truth is that the beauty industry is hardly regulated at all.
Throughout the months of May and June we collaborated with Stand Up To Cancer to bring awareness to the disease, the value of research, and the people it impacts.
