Recycling 101: Electronics

We know firsthand how hard it can be to navigate through the mire of symbols and restrictions that dictate what should go into our recycling bins—we’ve spent many hours trying to figure it out ourselves. Harder still is the fact that many of these rules can be dependent on what city you live in or your local recycling center.

So, in an effort to try to make the whole experience easier, we’ve researched exactly what you can—and cannot—throw into the bin. The last part of our four-part series is on Electronic Waste (see Part One, Recycling 101: Plastics, Part Two, Recycling 101: Metals, Part Three, Recycling 101: Paper & Cardboard) which is a comparatively new category for recycling centers, but 25 states have now passed legislation mandating statewide e-waste recycling. Be sure to Pin, print, and pass this chart to anyone who needs it (we’ve got it up on our refrigerators already). And if you still have questions, contact the waste facilities in your community to learn about curb-side pick up and their specific recycling criteria.
